Tet in Cambodia

This February we escaped Tet in Hanoi with a week in Cambodia – the same trip we’d planned last year but hadn’t been able to do due to work. We stayed one night in Phnom Penh – though didn’t get any further than FCC bar – then stayed 3 nights in riverside Kampot followed by 3 nights by the pool in Kep.

Although the trip was quite short it was a very welcome break. Not just from work but from Vietnam. We may love living here but it can grind you down and, to our surprise, Cambodia is a much easier country to be in than Vietnam. Not only does it seem more progressive than Vietnam, despite more recent troubles, but customer service is leagues above the average service here: staff speak better English and really know how to engage with customers. We particularly enjoyed our stay at Rikitikitavi where, from arrival, the staff knew our names and within hours were having  a laugh with us. Maybe not everyone would appreciate the personal touch but it works for us.
